Thermostatic Radiator Controls
A common challenge in radiator-based heating systems is the occurrence of overheating or under-heating in different areas of the same facility. When a boiler is switched on, radiators begin exchanging heat with the surrounding space and may continue heating even after a room has already reached its desired temperature. This often leads to discomfort for occupants, who cannot simply switch off the boiler because other rooms may still be cold or have not yet achieved the required comfort level.
To address this issue, Smart Age offers smart thermostatic radiator controls from Danfoss. When installed, each radiator can be individually programmed to operate during specific time periods and to maintain a defined room temperature. The thermostatic valve automatically reduces or stops heat flow once the set temperature is reached and reactivates the radiator only when the room temperature drops below the desired value.
For example, a bathroom radiator can be scheduled to operate automatically from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m. at 25°C, while a living room radiator operates from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., and a bedroom radiator from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. at 21°C, before maintaining a reduced temperature of 18°C overnight. In addition to the significant comfort and flexibility provided, such room-by-room control can achieve fuel savings of up to 40%, making thermostatic radiator controls one of the most effective and practical energy-saving measures in hydronic heating systems.

Aluminum Radiator Reflectors
As a complementary add-on to thermostatic radiator controls, Smart Age offers aluminum radiator reflectors as a simple yet highly effective energy-saving solution. Although widely used, conventional heating radiators are known to be heavy energy consumers and are subject to several inherent inefficiencies worth addressing. One common issue is that radiators act as localized heat sources, warming the room from a single point while other areas remain relatively cooler. In addition, radiators mounted on walls emit heat in all directions, causing up to 40% of the generated heat to be absorbed by the wall behind them and effectively lost.
By installing aluminum reflectors behind the radiators, a significant portion of this wasted heat is reflected back into the room, accelerating space heating and improving overall thermal comfort. Independent testing bodies have demonstrated that this low-cost yet impactful solution can reduce fuel consumption for radiator-based heating systems by up to 20%, making it a highly attractive efficiency upgrade with fast return on investment.
